Modern Meadow Announces Commercial-Scale Production Capabilities for BIO-VERA® Sustainable Leather Alternative

September 16, 2024

Nutley, NJ, September 17, 2024 – Sustainable biomaterial company Modern Meadow announced its new capability to produce over 500,000 square meters per year of its next-gen material, BIO-VERA®. BIO-VERA is made with over 90% renewable carbon content and crafted using Bio-Alloy®, a flexible mix of plant-based proteins and polymers. This approach allows Modern Meadow to reduce reliance on petroleum-based and animal products without sacrificing quality, performance, desirability, and feel.

BIO-VERA is designed to easily integrate into existing production processes used by industries such as automotive, footwear, furniture, and fashion accessories, making it a practical leather alternative option for immediate use.

We are thrilled to support tanneries and brands in their journeys toward adopting transformative, high-performing sustainable materials,” said Modern Meadow President & Chief Operating Officer David Williamson, PhD. “The alternative leather industry has faced challenges in meeting the commercial demands of these sectors, but with our new production capabilities, we are confident in our ability to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals at scale.

Modern Meadow’s BIO-VERA, along with the other materials in its portfolio, will be showcased at Lineapelle Milano, the international exhibition of leather, accessories, components, fabrics, synthetics, and models. The winter 2025/2026 show is taking place in Milan, Italy, September 17-19. Learn more about Modern Meadow onsite in Pavilion 24, Stand H06.
